The Island Cottages
In A Naples Bay Village

Picture
Developer Michael Sherman inspired by his hometown of Marblehead, MA.  attributes much of his design inspiration to his love of the quaint, a seaside New England villages.

The Sherman's quickly fell in love with the Bayshore Arts District for its proximity to Old Naples' downtown/beaches and the waterfront of the Naples Bay.
Bayshore's "old school" neighborhood feel was the  perfect place for Mr. Sherman to build on the philosphy of “New Urbanism”  a movement that seeks to design neighborhoods around people’s need for “community” rather than being subjugated to the de-personalizing impacts of the automobile. Simply put,  a walk/bike, friendly town, with urban charm and uniqueness, no boring uniformity. A town where neighbors actually, take the time to get to know each other.

Mr. Sherman's 40 year career in commercial real estate development specializing in design, management & marketing combined with his philosophy of the “New Urbanism” have made him the leader in the redevelopment of #BADNaples.
For the past 22 years Mr. Sherman has been a resident of the Bayshore Arts District & served on the Board of Directors for Collier County's  Bayshore Gateway Triangle CRA

In 2005, Mr. Sherman started working on his dream to help re-build BADNaples. He started buying lots on Jeepers Drive, and began building an infill “New Urbanist” neighborhood now know as “The Island Cottages of the Bayshore Arts District”.

This would be his contribution to the Bayshore Arts District renewal. His concept includes:

  •  Contemporary Old Florida architecture
  • white picket fences
  • friendly front porches
  • parking (and unsightly garage doors) relegated to the rear to enhance the beauty
  •  “walkable” charm of the quiet street.

To evoke the feeling of seaside villages around the world, each cottage is named for a favorite island and memorialized with a “Quarterboard” sign reminiscent of the whaling ships and unique homes in places like the island of Nantucket.
